What do I wear to Pilates?

There a lot of options out there when it comes to workout gear. However, there are some do’s and don’ts for what to wear to Pilates.

Arguably the most important thing when practicing Pilates is having the correct form. The instructors at Studio7 are constantly observing and assisting during classes to make sure everyone is in the correct position for each exercise. For this reason, it’s important to wear tighter fitting clothing so that the instructors can easily see your body alignment and make any necessary adjustments.

Women: Most women choose to wear leggings and an athletic tank to Pilates classes. This way they don’t have baggy shirts and pants blocking the instructors view of their form. Most form-fitting apparel made for yoga or Pilates would be appropriate for a class.

Men: Just like women, men should also strive to wear more form fitting clothing. A popular choice is shorts with a liner and semi fitted t-shirts.

Clothing considerations: As far as sports bras go, women should find something they feel comfortable in that offers good support and does not have a metal clasp. Necklaces, bracelets, and long earrings are probably not a good idea as it can get stuck on the reformer or cause discomfort when moving around. Also avoid things like zippers, hoods, and buttons to keep yourself comfortable during your workout.

Most people choose to practice Pilates barefoot but if the need to wear socks arises there are nonslip Pilates socks that work great: Studio7 sells gripper socks if you decide you prefer to wear socks. Be sure to check out our New Clients Specials to start your Pilates journey today.
