My Nutrition Story
I have eaten healthy most of my adult life and even completed a Whole30 successfully - this helped me adopt a more Paleo lifestyle and I felt amazing! However, last year I went through some very personal life changes and as a small business owner I experienced an increase in stress when we moved locations.
Over the last year I have been battling an increase in fatigue which directly effected my emotional health and stress level - I was tired all of the time, sometimes sleeping 10-12 hours a day. As someone who lives a very busy lifestyle my new normal was not acceptable - I needed to make a change and find the root cause of my fatigue. I visited several conventional medical practitioners without success; while my labs were viewed as "within normal limits", I felt anything but normal. I would not accept their reasoning for why I was so fatigued and knew I needed to look outside the box if I was going heal. It was time for me to take control.
A friend had suggested I visit Robyn Johnson - once I read about her background and did my 30 min consultation I knew she would be able to help me. After my first visit with Robyn I felt as if she understood what I was feeling and did not discount anything I had said. Once we had the labs done that she had requested we were able to start making changes. She suggested minor nutritional adjustments (gluten and diary free, which I've 95% been for months) but she added back in many food groups that I had been avoiding in an effort to follow an elimination diet. I'm so happy to have nuts and seeds back in my diet!
The key for me were supplements - did you know that there are many different forms of Vitamin B? As it turns out, I had been taking the right supplements, just not the proper dosage or forms that my body needed. After a few weeks I started to feel more normal - suddenly I was sleeping soundly and actively participating in my life. I now have more energy and have been able to workout, be successful in my business, and enjoy my personal life once again!
While I'm not 100% better I'm definitely moving in the right direction. Robyn helped me understand what my body needs (less stress, more sleep!) and she is very compassionate and encouraging. She was also able to break down the science of my labs to explain them to me on a level that I understood - I have learned so much about food, nutrition, and my body. While some may see this as expensive I believe you can't put a price on health or happiness, and this was a worthy investment.
