It's back! Our class series for new moms.

​Aside from being a highly universal discipline for the development of strength, flexibility, coordination and balance, Pilates can also be a beneficial tool before, during and after pregnancy. The system of controlled movements and exercises can be instrumental in maintaining core strength in preparation for, or recovery from, pregnancy’s impact on the body.

Prenatal Pilates works to maintain pelvic floor and abdominal wall strength. Throughout pregnancy your abdominal muscles are over-stretched which can lead to Diastasis Recti. Pregnant women also suffer from loose ligaments throughout their pelvis and can experience added stress to the Sacroiliac (SI) joint. Combining weak abdominals with loose ligaments, the added stress to the pelvis increases the risk for lower back and hip pain.

Post-natal Pilates works to refocus the mind-body connection. This fitness program is not only integral for regaining strength, but also for a woman to connect with her postpartum body in a whole new way. After a woman has a baby, it is very important to concentrate on movements that engage the transverse abdominis and pelvic floor.

After seeing the lack of Pilates classes in Kansas City for soon-to-be moms and new moms recovering from childbirth, we developed a Prenatal/Postpartum class series to meet the demand. Join us as we kick off our second class session beginning April 5th. Click for details.
